My husband is interested in OLD things, particularly old clocks. I was with him when he bought his first Grandfather clock. He walked out of the shop with it over his shoulder and looked for a taxi. He flagged one down and knocked a passing woman on the head. "You idiot," she said, "Why don't you wear a watch like everyone else?"
I once went golfing with my cousin, Karen. We were on the fifth hole, searching high and low. I said: "Where do you think the ball landed?" "The ball?" she said, "That's on the tee. I'm looking for my club."
I have lived in extraordinary times! Rock and Roll, Elvis, television, the Ed Sullivan show, hippies, burning bras, avoiding the draft, free love, color television (at least at our house), the Beatles, a bycentenial, the first moon landing, the space program, a melenium, cellular phones, computers, the internet, reality tv, and now; the first black president of the United States.
Many are saying we are ready for a change. I say, "I am ready to hope".. Hope for a new future for this country. Hope the recession will end. Hope we can dig out of what the last administration got us into. Hope, Hope, Hope.
Here is to hope in 2009!
